Abeokuta, Ogun State – Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, has expressed deep pride and emotion after touring the newly refurbished Olumo Rock Tourist Centre alongside Governor Dapo Abiodun, CON, and Deputy Governor Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele.
Speaking after the inspection with Governor Dapo Abiodun, Senator Salisu, an Egba-born son, described the upgrades as a “remarkable transformation” that honours the sacred heritage of the Egba people while modernizing the facility for broader accessibility.
“The newly curated Art Gallery moved me profoundly—it showcases the brilliance of our Indigenous artists, blending contemporary and classical works that tell the story of our resilience and creativity,” he said.
Highlighting key improvements, Senator Salisu noted:
– Enhanced Cultural Museum: Better documentation of Olumo Rock’s historical significance as a natural fortress during wartime.
– Elevator Access: Ensuring inclusivity for elders and persons with disabilities.
– Rejuvenated Gardens: Providing serene spaces for family outings and reflection.
Having climbed the rocks as a child, Senator Salisu urged Egbas and Nigerians to visit the site, calling it a “living embodiment of Egba courage, unity, and ingenuity.” He praised Governor Abiodun’s administration for preserving history while making it relevant for future generations.
“This isn’t just a tourist site—it’s a testament to where we came from and a guide for where we’re going. Our children deserve to experience this heritage,” he added.
The upgraded Olumo Rock Tourist Centre is expected to boost cultural tourism in Ogun State, further solidifying its status as a national treasure.
